Understanding the concept "MUNDUS" ARCIS - LIBERTAD


MUNDUS
is a hole in the earth
in a central part of village that is being founded
where all foreigners
put a little soil from
their
homeland. MUNDUS was discussed when we moved to our new building, the old "LIBERTAD foundry"

Universidad Bernardo O´Higgins

For the first time i designed a great "plaza".
This is today the heart the connects all the buildings within this university campus.
I didn´t know much about restoration then. I´ve learned a little more through the years collaborating eith Arturo Torres lópez de la Vega and Fanny Canessa. The little i knew before that i´d  learned in a trip to Italy
with my class ( A- at LTH) lead by prof. Olle Svedberg.
Today, some of my interventions there can be  considered as "wrong" but they can be mended, due to the nobility of the building. "Edificio de la Raza" by architect Jorge Aguirre Silva, 1939.

It has been the first time I can supervise the work in a quarry
- and get payed for it!-
The criteria for stone selection was very simple, the right size and it´s color should be as close to basalt-blue as possible, that, because it´s the color of my country´s vertebral column after a heavy snow storm in the winter.

"The workshop for new artistic behaviour" SEK University, 2005- 2007

The main issue of the workshop was to develope every students own bagage of forms. Starting with an evidence, brought by every student. The results were very different between them. The common task was to investigate the evidence to create individual "pseudo-combinatory units", but even those were specific for every student.

"The twilight seminar"- 1st excercise: "How does light unite the opposites and what is it´s materia"

The seminar was to explore the "verbal" aspects within architecture. Before coming to the concept "material" a short trip to MATERIA, before coming to the concept "visual", a short trip to VERBAL.The excersice in the pictures is about constructing a way from light to no- light and it´s relation to spatial magnitudes.
It was an 1:1 excercise. The assignment was delivered in some of the universities patios.

"The (riding) seminar for soil- and culture"

A seminar for students from the schools  of Visual Arts, Archaeology and Restoration of the SEK, University. It had different goals specifically out- layed for the different areas that it was ment to feed. In the case of the students of Visual Arts, it was to sensibilize about the soil´s morphology, simple concepts of construction techniques and a confrontation to each students own "ongoing" questions.
